Visit to Orela Shipyard

To find out more about the FPV pilot project’s installation location, the team together with Dr. Luofeng Huang visited Orela Shipyard docking facility at Ujungpangkah, Gresik on 8 November 2023. The main agenda is to observe the planned site for FPV installation. Therefore, the visiting team can discuss and further recommend exact placement, mooring and overall system needs to counter the environmental conditions. The observation includes wave height and direction, topography, mooring place and ship docking route. The environment around the Orela Shipyard dock is frequently navigated by large vessels and fishing boats. Therefore, it is essential to select a water area that is not heavily trafficked by ships.

Orela Shipyard offers several location options suitable for the installation of FPV, discussion concludes that FPV will be installed ±150 m from ship overhauling facility at the north end of the dock. This area was chosen for having reasonably high waves to be able measured its effect, relatively unaffected by the high & low sea tide, and far from ship docking route. The appropriate installation location for the FPV pilot project aims to maximize FPV performance, facilitate inspections, and enable supervision without disrupting activities around the Orela Shipyard dock, because FPV system performance will be reviewed based on the installed sensors, and the information gathered from sensors will be utilized for research and evaluation purposes.
